In Australia, today is fathers day. This is only my second year in celebrating fathers day, so I’m very much new to the whole experience. Fatherhood thus far has been an enormous growth experience, beyond the routine of helping in changing of nappies, feeding, comforting, putting to sleep and dancing to the wiggles, there is much more required. I’ve been honoured to know many good fathers including my own dad. I will summarise what I have learned from them into a list of 10 different things that fathers do for their children.
1. Love your wife
2. Lead by example
3. Cherish your children
4. Be steadfast in your love and show tenderness and mercy
5. Strive for your family
6. Instill responsibility, not fear
7. Encourage virtue
8. Command with respect and love
9. Give for your family
10. Pray for your family
Happy Fathers day to all the fathers I know. I pray for all fathers, that they will lead their families with humility and love, and honour the privilege of the stewardship that is fatherhood. That we may make a brighter future for the world with the legacy that we leave behind, our children. Amen.
