When it comes to many things I’m usually happy teaching my kids principles and then seeing what they can do with it, kind of like learning in an organic way instead of rote learning.
I’ve never heard Aimee count past 20 before, so I was surprised that while driving with little miss 4, we successfully counted to 100 together.
After celebrating the milestone, she beams at me and says, “now let’s count to one billion”.
After laughing with her, it dawned on me how finite this life is, how precious and fleeting each moment.
Smiling through the tears in my eyes, and with a lump in my throat, I assured her, “one day, I think we will.”
Perhaps there is a place in heaven that God has reserved for fathers and their children to sit together, look out into the universe, count the stars and marvel at all the wonders He has made.
One day we’ll know.
